Almost there

This video show the school site on 13th May 2026 with Classroom Block A, Rest and refreshment Block C and toilet Block D, together with the substructure of Classroom Block B largely completed.

Below is the completed Classroom block A.

The generous grant of £8172 from Hazel’s Footprints Trust for the pupils’ rest and refreshment room has been transferred to WADA and building work is close to completion.

Now the foundations of Block B are completed, again within budget, WDEF has transferred the final amount required to complete the building superstructure. WADA have been in discussions with the Oromia Education Department who are keen to take control of the building as soon as possible.

We were successful in a bid for £3000 from the Sage Publisher to fund school schoolbooks for every classroom.

We applied to Artelia Foundation, a charity associated with the engineering firm Artelia, which offers consultancy and funding support to engineering projects in developing countries. Unfortunately, after long consideration, they disappointingly informed us that they could not offer assistance. It is likely that a new well will need to be drilled to serve the school which WDEF will now fund.

We anticipate their will be other costs but we continue to have income from running events in 2026 and we are confident we will be able to complete the project.

Amazing fundraising at Christmas

Nicky Lopez, WDEF’s fundraiser collaborated with this super event which not onlyy brought in a share of ticket sales, but also made many more people aware of our charity and its work.

Aster Belay organised another amazing Christmas Party for our supporters to meet, enjoy Giftii’s amazing cooking, play party games and sing carols.

On the weekend of October 11th Birisa Bedhane Dechasa and Olana Hundessa visited the site near Guder and recorded this video which shows the work that has been done and that which remains. WDEF are in awe of the efforts being made by our partners WADA, and the workers on site to realise Workneh’s vision.

Block A comprises 4 classrooms and will be matched by a similar Block B. There will also be two smaller Blocks for student’s belongings and toilets. Funding for Block C has been donated by Harriet’s Footsteps Charity.
