Sun shines in Workneh’s memory

Workneh’s 6th Memorial Picnic was held in beautiful sunshine in Finsbury Park and involved another delicious picnic prepared by Giftii and fun and games organised by Nicky! Donations made in cash and online added over £750 to our funds.

Olana Hundessa, the treasurer of WADA, has worked with Siobhan, our vice-chair, to submit a successful funding bid to a charity Harriet’s Footprint which means we have funding for a smaller second building where children can have refreshments. We are following a design provided by the local education authority and this building is called the student’s room.

Nicky Lopez continues to organise charity fitness sessions in the gyms where he works, the next one will be on Sunday 9th June. We have signed up for places in Swim Serpentine 2025 and the Vitality 10K run, and Nicky will be preparing our supporters to meet the challenge. The runners in the London Landmarks Half Marathon and the London Marathon made almost £10,000 for WDEF.

We have now passed the half-way mark in our fundraising activities towards our initial target of £100,000. In addition we have gained valuable experience in submitting successful funding bids in cooperation with our partners in Oromia.

Support our runners on Sunday 6th April

WDEF supporters will meet at Embankment Tube at 9:00 am. The runners leave Westminster at 9:20 so they’ll pass by at around 9:30. We’ll then make our way to Somerset House and wait for their arrival around 10:30 and finally (after a brisk walk down the Strand) we’ll cheer their arrival in Trafalgar Square.
